BASIC LEGAL AWARENESS - TIPTOEING THROUGH A MINEFIELD

Understanding what you don't know and finding out how to fill in the gaps is critical here.

Whilst rules and regulations always seem daunting, knowing how to manage them properly is always the answer. There are many sources of information and advice but they can take you hours to search through.

We find that if you follow the basics that are available in the public domain to start with and then consult a legal expert for the more specialist stuff, that is a good way to move forward without incurring huge legal costs.

For example, information generally available includes how to understand which type of company you are with reference to your obligations to VAT, PAYE, National Insurance, Corporation Tax, Dividends and Directors pay etc.

However more in depth professional help and advice would be needed to ensure you follow the right procedures in areas such as licensing, adherence to the codes of professional bodies and compliance with health and safety regulations.
